Ford’s Eco Evolution embodies the answer to the age-old question, “what now?”
Eco Evolution’s design is founded on a new Ford Transit Custom PHEV base
Ford's Eco Evolution Campervan sort of embodies the answer to the age-old question, "What now?" Its design is founded on a new Ford Transit Custom PHEV base and uses two energy sources as fuel: electric and gas. The base's entire range comes out to about ninety-one point seven miles per gallon, with twenty-six of those miles coming purely from electric energy. That's not too shabby. If you live on the edge of the city and know a place nearby, you can hunker down for a weekend at most. However, if you want to go further and explore more, then you'll have to have a little bit more juice than that, and Campervan Company knows that.
That’s an impressive feat, if Ford can pull it off
That's where their one-quart EcoBoost engine comes in to expertly and efficiently bolster its okay range to a whopping three hundred and seventy-six miles. That's an impressive feat if they can pull it off, and they even say it will be easy to refill and is their lowest carbon-emitting van to date. Of course, it's not as simple as adding some super juice and going at excessive speeds. They squeeze every last bit out of the lemon, with one thousand watts of solar and a three thousand-watt Leisure Battery to carry all the heavy lifting while camping.
Rooftops and fold-out panels help soak up more sun
Rooftop and fold-out panels help soak up more sun than some high-end motorhomes with solar and can even charge a bit while driving. The heating, cooling, and induction cooktop are all powered by this source. The heating system is custom-made. To make it zero-emission, the Campervan Company developed it to capture the wasted heat so that you can keep warm without the need to use gas. An insulation package is also available to further improve the heating if you live in or plan to visit colder destinations.
Taking a peek inside, we see that the company has done some things with the base PHEV van. Such as the side kitchen, which has been partially replaced with easily removable modules. This allows for a more flexible trip and can hopefully save some space, a little weight, and miles when combined with the lightweight foldable bed located in the cabin. There are plans for putting another bed in a pop-top with cabinets and other storage for clothing, gear, and everything else you will want to bring. The Eco Evolution is a four-seater, but there are options for additional seating for up to six.
In addition to the seating, other options like hot water, electrical appliances, WiFi, and more will be available for purchase on release. If you’re interested in getting one for yourself, Campervan Co. has stated a starting price of around $100,000 when it is fully released.
