New improved electronic-locking bike capsule from Basecamp

So what exactly is the Basecamp Bike Capsule?

Alpen is a US-based company founded by an avid cyclist who, after having six bikes stolen, went on a mission to help combat bike theft.

Now, the company is no longer based on theoretical napkin sketches but instead specializes in providing urban cyclists with a sleek, safe storage alternative for their bicycles with the Basecamp Bike Capsule.

So what exactly is the Basecamp Bike Capsule? Well, this is a recent adaptation of the original Basecamp Bike Capsule the company developed back in 2018.

That version is now called the Classic, with the new incarnation being bigger and offering a better safety feature.

Another improvement from the Classic

The larger size of the new and improved Basecamp allows for a more extensive array of bikes to utilize the product, specifically bikes up to seventy-seven inches long and thirty-three inches wide.

That means nearly any bike short of the tandem variety can fit inside the capsule. In contrast, the previous Classic edition was slightly more limited.

Another improvement from the Classic, and the most significant improvement, is the locking system.

You can also whitelist friends and family members

The Classic had a simple, traditional key lock for the lid, but it could be better. That is why the company has since moved on to a Bluetooth-enabled electric locking system for all of its capsules.

You can also whitelist friends and family members so that they can access your bike while locked up if you want.

Other features of the Basecamp Bike Capsule include a rear window for charging electric bikes while they´re stored, multiple interior hooks for helmets or backpacks, and an optional Hiplok Ankr, which offers even more security within the capsule.

Alpen is probably aiming to sell to local governments or businesses where bikers could easily locate one of these bike safes. Then utilize their services in a public environment for a parking fee.

Suppose you are interested in picking one of these up for yourself. In that case, preorders are available right now for around two thousand four hundred dollars.

If you don´t want to wait until Fall for one of these, the Classic edition is available for purchase for around one thousand eight hundred dollars.
